An “elderly” man who was left trapped in his car after his vehicle left the road and ended up upside down in a water-filled ditch had to be rescued in Turves yesterday afternoon.
“Firefighters wearing water suits entered the water, which was about three foot deep, and secured the vehicle before extricating the casualty from the car,” said a Cambs Fire spokesman.
“He was then placed on an inflatable water sled which was brought up to the roadside using two nine-metre ladders.
“The man was not injured but was assessed and treated by paramedics at the scene.” Crews from Dogsthorpe, Wisbech and March were called to the scene at 3.43pm and returned to their station by 5.34pm.
