Paramedics in Ely are among the first to benefit from a new ambulance as part of the latest region-wide rollout.
Twelve ambulances have been delivered to ambulance stations across the region in the past two weeks as part of the East of England Ambulance Service NHS Trust’s fleet overhaul.
It follows a massive rollout of 147 new ambulances earlier this year to ensure that, by next March, staff will be using vehicles that are five years old or less.
Ely, Huntingdon, Halstead, Harlow, Corringham, Chelmsford and Peterborough have already received ambulances in the latest rollout of 120 new vehicles, with two going to Colchester and three to Ipswich.
Trust chief executive Anthony Marsh said: “Our ageing fleet was a real concern amongst staff when I joined the trust in January, and to have resolved this issue and have an entire fleet under five years old by March is an excellent achievement.
“I would like to thank our fleet and medical devices teams for all of their work getting these new vehicles on the road.”
Other stations set to receive a new ambulance in the rollout include King’s Lynn, Newmarket, March, St Ives, Mildenhall, Bury St Edmunds and Saffron Waldon.
