Ely pupils learnt about “stranger danger” when two of Ely’s PCSOs paid their school a visit.
It was a hands-on visit at King’s Ely Acremont as pupils were allowed to climb inside one of Cambridgeshire Police’s patrol cars as they learned everything they needed to know about staying safe in public places.
PCSO Kat Deronal and PCSO Annie Austin, who both patrol the Ely area, were in charge of teaching the reception pupils about the subject of “stranger danger”.
The PCSOs told the children how important it is to make sure they are always in sight of a family member of friend when out in a public space.
They also taught the pupils some important words to say if a stranger was ever to approach them, such as “you’re not my mummy/daddy”.
Celia Etchegoyen, interim headteacher, said: “The children were thrilled to meet the PCSOs and have the opportunity of looking inside the police car, pressing the siren and trying on the high-vis jackets. Everyone had such a wonderful day.”
