PEOPLE looking for jobs and learning opportunities can get tips at a free training academy in Wisbech.

Axiom Academy, launched last year by Axiom Housing Association, aims to help people secure employment and achieve their aspirations.

Dr Karen Prince, head of the academy, said: “In the past year we have had 260 enrolments, all of which have resulted in a professional qualification for learners and in some cases more than one for the same person.

“The academy helps people to improve their skills and job prospects by providing the necessary support and development opportunities.

“We know we can help even more in particular in the current economic climate which is why we are promoting what’s on offer.”

The Wisbech Foyer Skills and Development Centre, in North Street, is one of six community-based centres across Cambridgeshire and Lincolnshire. It has an on-hand tutor to provide support for anyone aged 16-80.

The courses include basic online IT training, assessments in maths and English and employment and work skills courses through learndirect.

These courses can lead to a relevant City and Guilds qualification that is well-recognised in the work industry.

The Wisbech training academy is open Mondays, Tuesdays and Fridays from 9am-noon and 1-4pm.
