How can people spot what parts of their home might need replacing?

When things start to perish, such as rubber seals and gaskets, it may be time to start looking to replace as windows and doors start to become draughty. Often technology has moved on, and the original seals and gaskets are no longer available, especially if they are over 20 years old. You can tell if sealed units are starting to fail when you see moisture between the glass panels, or hardware such as door locking mechanisms start to become excessively worn. You may also feel you want to save some money – you can make your home more thermally efficient by replacing doors and windows as this can help to cut energy bills.

What can be some of the dangers of not replacing windows or doors?

The main risk in not replacing a defective door, for example, is that you can end up locked out of your own home, meaning an expensive locksmith call out. The old windows may not be as secure as new ones which have multi-point locking and safety glass, meaning your home may be vulnerable to unwanted visitors. Also, insurance companies may be less inclined to insure you or might load your premium.

Which of your products are for more practical purposes, and which are more about look and style?

The current standard UPVC windows and doors are the result of much research and development, in some parts utilising recycled plastic. All our windows are very thermally efficient, with an A rating as a minimum. On a less practical note, many customers are looking for colours as opposed to white, with Anthracite grey, Chartwell green and cream all being particularly popular. However, these and other colours, along with Georgian bars and lead work et cetera, do not improve the efficiency of the windows and doors but make the property more individual and different to those of their neighbours.

What are some of the most popular products at the moment?

Bi-fold doors and roof lanterns are particularly popular at the moment, enabling as much light as possible into rooms. This also gives the feeling of extending the rooms into the garden, or the room becoming part of the garden.
