POETRY lovers revelled in a literary entertainment with a twist at a local nature reserve last Wednesday.

Four accomplished local poets performed their work, on the theme of ‘Nature and the fens’, at the Wildfowl and Wetland Trust centre at Welney. Guests also enjoyed refreshments and a live demonstration of moths caught (and later released!) at the reserve.

The well-attended event was chaired by the Fenland Poet Laureate, Elaine Ewart, who was joined by fellow poets Janet Fairweather, Leanne Moden and J.S. Watts. The evening was organized in association with Atelier East and the Fenland Poet Laureate Awards.

Samantha Lee, Public Engagement Officer at WWT Welney, said: “This is the first time we’ve ever had an event like this so it was brilliant to see so many people turn up. We raised 110 altogether which will go straight towards our conservation activities, including buying some new surveying equipment. In fact, the event it went so well we’re already thinking of doing another one”.
