LEE Smith forced his way into his terrified ex-girlfriend's home by smashing the door and threatening to "do" her and anyone she was seeing, magistrates heard this week.

Smith had broken up with Michelle Bruce seven months earlier - but four days after Christmas he turned up at her Elm home.

Prosecutor Nicola Ebbs told Fenland magistrates on Wednesday: "She thought he was drunk. He smashed against the back door and the frame was snapped by the lock."

Smith, 40, of The Cottons, Upwell, got into the kitchen, but within seconds the police arrived and he was arrested.

Smith's visit to Ms Bruce's home put him in breach of his bail conditions, and he remained in custody until his court appearance this week.

According to Smith, Ms Bruce had agreed to meet him to discuss their relationship, and he went to her home when she failed to answer his telephone call, said Amy Brown, mitigating.

"He went to find out what was going on, and did bang on the door," said Miss Brown. "There was no answer so he went to the back of the property. He spoke to her through a window and asked if she would go for a chat. She agreed, but he felt she was winding him up and tricking him, so he broke the door panel to reach the lock to gain access to the property."

Smith, who denied shouting and swearing or threatening to "do" anyone, was ordered to pay £250 compensation and £70 costs.
