A PUBLIC footpath in a Fenland village could be diverted to allow for the expansion of one of the area's biggest employers.

Knowles Transport wants to carry out the work north of its depot in Blue Lane, Wimblington.

The company, which has 75 vehicles and 180 trailers, wants to use the mainly agricultural land for storage and have applied for change of use.

However, the plans, lodged this month with Fenland District Council, show that the company wants to divert a footpath to enable the works to go ahead.

Knowles also wants to demolish a shed on the site, erect 2.4-metre palisade fencing and a 2.4-metre high railing with 2.6-metre brick pillars.

Copies of the plans are available on the council's website or through the one-stop shops and comments have been invited.
