As part of the ongoing relationship, Greenvale opened the doors to a group of students to show them the inner workings of the potato packing facility and to help them understand how a business operates.

Sadie Condon, Greenvale’s production manager said: “All of the staff at Greenvale were delighted to host the students from Facet and eager to explain how the business works.

“We’ve had some really positive comments from the students, their parents and the charity and we look forward to being able to provide more support in the future.”

Ultimately, FACET hopes to help many students get back into work or start working independently for themselves.

Based in Floods Ferry near March, Greenvale employs more than 350 people and grows, packs and markets fresh potatoes for UK supermarkets as well as supplying potatoes to the wholesale, catering and processing industries.

Greenvale has been supporting Facet for four years and says it is impressed by the charity’s dedication and support for adults with learning disabilities.

Facet provides training and day care to more than 100 students focusing on horticulture, woodwork and help towards independence.

Greenvale showcased the business from the moment potatoes arrive on site to the moment they are packed and despatched and on their way to the shops.

With the event proving to be a success, Greenvale and FACET are now working together to offer an interviewing day where students can take part in role play interviews with managers from around the Greenvale business.

The scheme will help the students practice for interviews in a business setting and the Greenvale team will provide additional coaching and support.

Many Greenvale staff support the charity in their own time by helping with tasks such as gardening, fence building and odd jobs at Facet’s March location.

The Greenvale site itself buys wooden planters from FACET and in return students visit the site to plant them up.
