AN extension to a Fenland factory built to keep pace with the increasing popularity of beetroot has been officially unveiled.

Visitors to G's Fresh Beetroot in Hostmoor Avenue, March, were shown around the factory and the new extension which includes a cold store and storage area.

The factory was built in 2001 after the business outgrew its original site in the town's Burrowmoor Road.

An ever-growing national demand for beetroot necessitated the building of the extension which took around a year to complete and has been in use since July.

About 14,500 tons of mainly locally sourced beetroot is processed at the factory each year. Customers include a number of leading supermarkets in the UK. It also supplies the independent retail, food service and catering, and food manufacturing sectors.
