A FAMILY get-together with a difference took place on Saturday when descendants and cousins of Emmanuel and Susannah Palmer shared their latest family history research.

The fourth gathering of the Palmers, at the Olde Mill, Upwell, was attended by 57 family members.

Palmer family researchers travelled from Kent, Berkshire, Lancashire, Yorkshire, Wales, Peterborough, Norwich, Lowestoft, Downham Market and Hilgay to join those from Wisbech and March.

Event organiser, Ann McClean of Llanmerewig, Wales, said: "These meetings originally began in 2002 for the 'descendants of Emmanuel and Susannah Palmer of Methwold and Wisbech', but such is the interest in researching our Palmer heritage we are now the 'descendants and cousins of Emmanuel and Susannah Palmer', and many other branches of the Palmer family attend.

"Many of us took along notes and old photographs in the hope of being able to identify them, as well as family tree charts to show where we all fitted in and how we all related to each other."

Highlight of the event was the attendance of two Palmer family members, Len Warby of Wisbech, and Molly Goodenough of March, who are both 95 years old. She said: "They were both able to name people in some of the old photographs that had been brought along, as well as reminisces about the old days."

It was agreed to hold another gathering next year.
