A Bronze Age spear shield and rapier will be among the artefacts on display when an exhibition about Chatteris’ earliest human occupants, their tools and implements opens next Saturday.
The official opening of the exhibition will include a talk called ‘Stepping into Britain: The Earliest Humans in East Anglia’ by Dr Nick Ashton of the British Museum (Bricstan Room, 11.30am, free entry). Maisie Taylor and Frances Pryor, who regularly appeared on Time Team, will also attend.
Chatteris Museum received a £7,900 Heritage Lottery Fund (HLF) grant for the project exploring the ancient human occupation of the town.
The exciting project, led by curator Ian Mason, will identify man made items in local and national museums, up to 1,000,000 years old, that were found in Chatteris.
