MARCH father Darren Mundy attacked his wife in front of their young children after calling her fat, and complaining that she had "stuffed her face" all day.The family had been to a restaurant before Mundy pushed his wife Vonya, and then used both hands to pummel the side of her face. As she curled up in a ball on the floor he kicked her legs and thighs."He was just going mad," Mrs Mundy told police. "I looked through my hands at him. He looked angry and aggressive."The couple's daughters were upset by the incident, Nicola Ebbs, prosecuting, told Fenland magistrates on Tuesday, and their mother prepared to take them away from their March home.Mundy grabbed his wife's hair, and she fell down three or four stairs on to a half-landing during the fracas, before leaving the property with the children.Thirty-six-year-old Mundy, of Regent Avenue, March, admitted assault causing actual bodily harm, and breaching a condition of his bail by sending a text message to his wife."We all know the psychological effects on children, and how damaging it is to witness this type of behaviour in the home," said Miss Ebbs. "This was a prolonged incident with multiple blows."Mundy told police he had no memory of the assault or making comments about his wife's weight, because he had drunk five bottles of red wine."He is deeply concerned about the fact that he cannot remember details of this assault," said solicitor Anita Waterman. "He recognises he has a problem with drink and depression and mood swings."The incident has shocked him, and he recognises he needs help. He is full of remorse at his behaviour. He knows it was wholly unacceptable, and he needs professional assistance."Magistrates committed Mundy to Cambridge Crown Court for sentencing and granted him conditional bail.
