A company has praised a Government initiative, to help young unemployed people find work in food manufacturing, after recruiting someone through the scheme.

Fenmarc Produce, based in March, hosted Feeding Britain’s Future, a government initiative with Jobcentre Plus, which introduced young unemployed people to the industry.

Kristi Glowacki, of Fenmarc, said: “Following the event we actually employed a young man called Kearon Dixon.

“He has successfully passed his probationary period and is a success story of the Feeding Britain’s Future event – even though it was not a recruitment exercise.

“We will be hosting the event again this year and would like to highlight the possibilities that are open to young people struggling with unemployment.”

Kearon said: “Fenmarc always looks after you and I never struggle – you are always part of a team. It is an enthusiastic place to be and you are kept informed about what is going on – everyone helps each other.”

Kearon has received praise and positive feedback from leaders at Fenmarc.

Julie Brand, production team leader, said: “Kearon is very enthusiastic for all jobs that he is given and will help others. He always shows willingness, is happy to adapt and wants to learn.

“He is currently working to a high standard as a production colleague but has aspirations to become a machine minder in time.

“Kearon asks for more opportunity and always using his initiative.”

Andrew Richards, operations leader at Fenmarc’s factory at Westry, March, added: “Once Kearon had had his initial one-to-one meetings with Julie, his leader, he was identified as a star to be moved forward to upcoming machine minder role opportunities and other roles.

“He is a team player and worker.”

Under the scheme, Fenmarc hosted an insight day to unemployed young people aged 16-24 to offer skills training to help tackle youth unemployment in Cambridgeshire.

The day was part of a nationwide initiative giving young people first-hand knowledge of the skills needed for a career in the food industry.

The food and grocery industry is the UK’s biggest private sector employer providing one in seven jobs and there are a huge range of careers on offer.
