THE crowd of 1,109 who watched March Town United host Wisbech Town has been confirmed as the highest attendance so far in this season’s FA Cup.
Fans flocked to March’s GER ground to witness the area’s biggest derby for 30 years in the FA Cup Preliminary Round clash.
Hares chairman Phil White was left stunned as queues were forced to form down Robingoodfellow’s Lane such was the demand to watch the mouth-watering tie.
And with the score deadlocked at 1-1 after 90 minutes, 830 people headed to the replay at the Elgood’s Fenland Stadium - the competition’s third highest attendance so far.
The record attendance at Wisbech’s new ground was only beaten by the 853 fans who watched King’s Lynn Town dump Soham Town Rangers out of the competition at the first attempt.
The Fenmen - who beat March 3-2 in the replay - host Wroxham in the competition’s first qualifying round on Saturday.
