Fenland’s real life ‘Time Team’ showed hundreds of recently discovered artefacts to the March Society last week.
Fenland Archaeological Society’s Alex Fisher explained how The Fenland Archaeological Society was formed in 2009 after a successful excavation (organised by other groups) of Wisbech Castle.
Since then FenArch volunteers, with the help of Heritage Lottery Funding, have been actively organising excavations, digging trenches and pits, using professional recording sheets, taking digital photos as well as deploying geo-phys equipment and metal detectors.
FenArch has now excavated and explored sites in Wisbech, Christchurch, Wisbech St Mary and March.
Next year they intend field-walking and to investigate the historic colony in Manea.
Continual findings confirm that Fenland had many settlements scattered throughout the area.
