AIR Cadets and staff from Bedfordshire and Cambridgeshire Wing met at RAF Wyton for their 70th Annual Wing Field Weekend and Review.

Teams marched around the station with flags and banners flying as the 29 groups vied for points in various exercises including first aid and aircraft recognition competitions. March 1220 Squadron tasted major glory after being crowned the best all-round squadron in the wing, winning the coveted Walker Shield as a result. It was the squadron’s highest finish in 20 years.

March 1220 took centre stage on Sunday morning having won the competition and carried the wing’s banner during the parade.

Many cadets from Fenland were also rewarded for their sterling service to the Royal Air Force. Cadet Warrant Officer Alexa Ferguson from March 1220 Squadron was appointed as Her Majesty Lord Lieutenant Cadet for Cambridgeshire and was also awarded the Brackenborough Bowl for being the ball all-round female cadet in the wing.

Flt Lt Steve Johnson the officer commanding 272 Wisbech Squadron was awarded a second clasp for 24 years qualifying service. March 1220 Squadron commanding officer Flt Lt Kirsty Burnham was awarded the Commandant Air Cadets certificate for meritorious service.
