Last year’s Fenland Business Awards business of the year Precise Component Manufacture Limited answers our quickfire questions.

• What has happened at Precise Component Manufacture Limited since winning the award ?

We have continued to grow rapidly and opened our fifth site, PCML Peterborough, in January 2018.

• What have been the company’s main challenges in 2017/18?

Our main challenge has been the recruitment of skilled people to stay ahead of our customers’ demand. We are now developing a new apprenticeship scheme and company-wide learning and development culture in order to grow our in-house talent.

• What has been your biggest success in 2017/18?

Our quality management system has been certified to the new standard ISO9001:2015 across all areas of our business.

• What are the company’s plans for 2018 and beyond?

We will continue to realise our ambitious expansion plans both through organic growth and further acquisitions.

• What did winning the awards mean to you and what would you say to businesses thinking about entering the awards for the first time?

The awards are recognition of the hard work of every member of the team in making our company so successful. Other companies should enter the awards to receive independent recognition that can boost the morale of everyone in the company.

The judges said: “PCML show excellence in all aspects of business management. Fully embracing technology, passionate about recruiting from the local economy and truly developing a unique selling point.

“The culture within the business is relaxed yet clearly focused on a common goal. We are proud to have them in Fenland.”

Business of the year is not directly entered but chosen by the judges from all of the winning businesses.

This category is sponsored by Whiting & Partners. Founding sponsors nine years ago, they believe the event stimulates local growth and reflects the progress of businesses as they evolve.

Among the oldest independent firms of chartered accountants and business advisers in East Anglia, Whiting & Partners was formed to meet the needs of the farming communities of March and Wisbech. It too has evolved over nearly 90-years.

Thirteen partners, four associates and nearly 130 staff in 10 key market towns across the region support clients the length and breadth of the UK as well as overseas.
