Four part-time cleaners employed by Fenland District Council have been made redundant in a move which officials say will save £30,000 a year.
The redundancies and savings have been released following a Freedom of Information request by this newspaper.
The council’s staff committee had previously agreed detail of the change was exempt information under the Local Government Act of 1972.
Until now the only published information from the council was a report to the council staff committee inviting them to “approve the proposals to contract out the cleaning services for Fenland Hall and March and Wisbech ‘At Your Service’ shops.
Committee members had revealed of “the circumstances and details of the proposed changes and the financial implications associated with the proposed changes”.
However it is only now that it can be revealed four staff are involved and they all work part-time.
No date for the transfer of the contract has been revealed by the Foi request says staff will be transferred to a new employer.
