Fenland Council produced its ‘end of year’ account but without the grades for the best and worst attendance record of their councillors.
Topping the charts with a remarkable performance of being eligible to attend 43 council and committee meetings – and attending all 43 of them – is Chatteris councillor Peter Murphy.
Cllr Murphy is received his basic councillors’ allowance of £4,676.64 plus an extra £8,499.96 as a cabinet member but he also sits on the corporate governance committee, planning and staff committees.
His Chatteris colleague Anne Hay, who is vice chairman of the overview and scrutiny committee and sits on both the corporate governance and planning committees, turned up to 31 of the 37 meetings to which she was eligible- an 84 per cent attendance record.
However the third Chatteris councillor – Dave ‘Boy’ Green who took the Birch seat in 2015 formerly held by Alan Melton- is near the bottom of the class.
His attendance at only four of the eight possible meetings he could have attended (he doesn’t sit on any committees) puts him at 50 per cent.
Which leaves the question of who has the worst attendance record in Fenland?
That ‘accolade’ puts March councillor Andrew Pugh rooted firmly at the bottom.
Cllr Pugh, also a member of the overview and scrutiny committee, managed to turn up just four occasions out of a possible 15 meetings – an attendance rate of 27 per cent.
Whittlesey enjoys a mix of high performers but also a one time cabinet member in Steve Garratt who has slipped in his attendances.
Cllr Garrett attended five meetings out of a possible 12 and his 41 per cent record puts him well down the list.
Not so with fellow Whittlesey councillor Dee Laws who is a member of both the overview and scrutiny and planning committees who had a 100 per cent record.
She had 32 meetings to attend and managed all 32 – her 100 per cent record being shared with others. They include council leader John Clark (21 out of 21).
In Wisbech there is a prolific number of those with a 100 per cent record and they are; Carol Cox (8 out of 8), Simon King (21 out of 21) David Oliver (21 out of 21) Gary Tibbs (8 out of 8) and Sam Hoy (11 out of 11).
The remaining councillors with a 100 per cent record are Jan French of March (8 out of 8) and Alex Miscandlon (25 out of 25)
