LOVE blossomed for nursery workers Ted and Val Brown in the 1950s — and on Boxing Day they celebrated their golden wedding anniversary.

The March couple first met in 1956 when they were introduced by a colleague while working at Green’s Nurseries in St Peter’s Road.

While Ted was in Hong Kong with the Army on National Service he received a letter from a friend telling him about a girl at the nursery — and when he came back to March he started working at Green’s and met Val.

Ted used to cycle from his March home to Wimblington to meet Val. Four years later they tied the knot on Boxing Day at St Peter’s Church in Wimblington.

Ted went on to work for British Rail at March’s Whitemoor Marshalling Yards for 30 years and Val was a cleaner at Westwood Junior School in March for 33 years.

The couple have twin daughters — Karen Kelso and Elaine Brown — who both live in March. They celebrated their golden day with their family at their Norwood Road home.

Ted and Val share a love of gardening and are both regular bingo players.
