FRESH is a community-led sports action group organised by Fenland District Council's sports and recreation equity programme, designed to promote, enhance and develop opportunities for women and girls to take part in sport and recreational activities. The Come into Coaching workshop will give an insight into the role of coach or assistant coach and it will outline the local opportunities to get involved in coaching generally. For those who wish to pursue their interest in coaching after the workshop, Christine Sprowell will offer support with personal development planning sessions two to three weeks later. There is a £10 charge for the workshop, but this can be refunded in the form of vouchers for further coach development training.FRESH is funded by both Fenland Council and East Cambridgeshire and Fenland NHS Primary Care Trust. It is also supported by Cambridgeshire Football Association, the Cambridge and Peterborough Active Sports Partnership, Neale-Wade Community College, sports coach UK and community residents.Councillor Steve Garratt, portfolio holder for Sports, Leisure and Young People, said: "It is very important that we encourage women and girls to participate in sports coaching. There is a shortage of coaches across Fenland and encouraging female participation can only help to boost numbers. It is a thoroughly worthwhile initiative and I hope it is one that parents would encourage their daughters to take part in.
