WATER babies at the Hudson Leisure Centre in Wisbech certainly know they are going to have a 'splashing' time when they go swimming. The pool at the Hudson is among the first in the UK to get the stamp of approval in recognition of its parent-friendly policies by professional swimming bodies and a leading nappy manufacturer, and it has been awarded a certificate. Now on offer are: Baby-friendly pool facilities including an area for baby swimming and parent-friendly steps; baby and child-friendly changing rooms at the recommended temperature; approved standards of hygiene, including swimpant guidelines; family sessions and/or adult and child swimming classes; and approved health and safety procedures.A baby-friendly pool directory has been developed by Huggies Little Swimmers and two leading swimming organisations, the Amateur Swimming Association (ASA) and Institute of Sport and Recreational Management (ISRM), providing parents with essential information about the facilities offered for their babies when they take them swimming. The ASA and the ISRM recognise the need to give parents as much information as possible and to encourage more parents of young children to take their babies swimming regularly.Councillor Steve Garratt, portfolio holder for Leisure, Sports and Young People, said: "This is another excellent facility offered by one of our leisure centres. Anything that encourages parents to take their children swimming and have fun in a safe environment must be good news."Leisure Centre manager Gillian Twell said: "We have worked hard to encourage parents to take their babies swimming because it is good for baby development. I am delighted that our efforts have been recognised.
