VEGETABLE specialist, Greenvale, is supporting a local charity that helps adults with learning disabilities to live independently.

Greenvale is helping Fenland Area Community Enterprise Trust, FACET, through a community garden scheme.

The Floods Ferry firm is supplying 20kg of the company’s Vale Sovereign seed potatoes for the students to grow for their own kitchen, vegetable seeds, 400 shrub plugs and a heated bench for propagating cuttings and hanging basket plugs.

FACET, in March provides skills training for work and independent living for adults with learning and other disabilities including physical or sensory impairment, mental health problems or who are head injury victims.

The training is designed to help the students achieve their full potential in life through a range of activities like horticulture, sport, music, arts and crafts and woodwork enabling them to give something back to the community.

Linda Ingram, CEO for FACET, said: “We are delighted with the continued support from Greenvale. Engaging with local businesses like them is important not just in straightforward monetary donations but also the practical help and advice they can give to our horticulture department.”

Greenvale also supports FACET by offering work experience for students who care for the hanging baskets and containers at the Floods Ferry site.

Rob Phillips, Operations Manager for Floods Ferry said: “FACET offers an invaluable opportunity for adults with learning and other disabilities to attain new skills that mean they feel valued citizens who can contribute to the community. “
