Fenland’s new poet laureate will open a shop that will sell a mix of vintage and new hand-crafted items on Saturday.
The Emporium, in Market Street, Wisbech, will be opened by Poppy Kleiser, who will read a poem she has written especially for the occasion.
Its owner, Jeni Townsend, is a prize winning poet and designer who has had work sold in the prestigious Tate Group gallery Towner in East Sussex and the De La Warr Pavilion in Bexhill-on Sea.
She also teaches English and creative writing at the College of West Anglia King’s Lynn campus.
She said: “Since re-locating to the area last July I have grown to love Wisbech with its beautiful Georgian architecture and feel the time is right to begin a new venture here.
“This is the first shop I’ve opened, which is really exciting.
“My brother owns a company and my grandfather ran shops in north England so I guess it runs in the blood.
“The shop will be selling a quirky mix of vintage and new items for the home together with handcrafted items made by local crafts people.”
