Fenland residents are being asked to have their say on where they are able to cast their vote during elections.

A consultation has been launched by Fenland District Council as part of a review of polling districts, places and stations for the North East Cambridgeshire constituency.

The council has to carry out the review every five years to make sure voting arrangements remain ‘up-to-date, convenient and accessible for electors’.

The next one is due by 2020, but is being carried out now to review proposed changes to ward boundaries which are due to be implemented for the May 2019 elections.

Following the Local Government Boundary Commission for England review and the Community Governance Review in Whittlesey earlier this year changes have been made to six of the 28 wards in the constituency.

Councillor Anne Hay, Fenland District Council’s Cabinet member for corporate governance, said: “This is an important review and it gives people the opportunity to have their say on local voting arrangements in time for the local council elections due in May next year.

“We would like to hear representations from any interested parties relating to polling districts and associated polling stations in Fenland, particularly any views on access arrangements as we want to make sure everyone can exercise their right to vote with ease.”

Representations can be sent to: The Polling Districts and Polling Places Review, Electoral Services, Fenland District Council, Fenland Hall, County Road, March, PE15 8NQ or emailed to: elections@fenland.gov.uk.

The consultation period will end on Friday November 2.
