Getting or staying healthy in Fenland is set to become more expensive.
Fenland District Council’s Overview and Scrutiny Committee will meet on Monday January 13 to look at proposals to introduce price rises across the board at the council’s four leisure centres.
While the price of a monthly anytime membership would remain at £40.50, daytime membership is set to increase by 5.9 per cent per month from £28.80 to £30.50.
Annual adult and swimming memberships would rise by three per cent.
Going for a swim, getting swimming lessons and hiring a lifeguard would also be on average three per cent more expensive.
Hiring a badminton court or table tennis table would cost you an extra 2.9 per cent, adult fitness classes would increase by 3.4 per cent and junior classes would rise by 3.1 per cent.
Price increases are also proposed for indoor netball, basketball and volleyball sessions, as well as tennis classes, hiring a football pitch and children’s activities.
But those who sign up as anytime members for 12 months would pay 2.9 per cent less per month, a reduction from £34.50 to £33.50.
The move to anytime and daytime memberships is designed to increase the amount of people who use the gym during the day, when it is quieter.
Daytime membership, allowing entry up to 4.30pm, which has previously only been available to students, the over-65s and people on disability benefit, would become available to all users.
Anytime memberships allow anytime access to the pool, all fitness classes and the gym, while daytime memberships allow access to the pool, gym and some fitness classes between 9.30am and 4.30pm.
The report said: “These changes simplify the membership structure, ensuring that customers have a choice of options and that the team is able to explain the membership clearly to all customers.
“The change of membership by access time for all is simple to understand and fair, encouraging use during the daytime when the facilities are currently under utilised.”
The council is responsible for The George Campbell Centre, Hudson Leisure Centre, Chatteris Leisure and Manor Leisure Centre.
There were 625,000 paying visits, generating just under £2.2m, at these centres in 2013/4. It is hoped the fee changes will generate an extra £40,260 in income.
The council needs to make £1.135m of savings in the next year to cope with budget cuts.
