Fenland students among 186 from College of West Anglia who celebrated graduation

Students from the Isle Campus in Wisbech, who graduated in Graphic Design or achieved their Diplomas in Teaching and Lifelong Learning Sector, were among the 186 students who took part in the annual procession in King’s Lynn.

The deputy mayor of King’s Lynn and West Norfolk, Councillor Trevor Manley, college principal David Pomfret and the Vice Chancellor of Anglia Ruskin University, Professor Mike Thorne also took part.

Cllr Manley joined other staff members from both the College of West Anglia and Anglia Ruskin University for the procession from the Town Hall, on the Saturday Market Place, to St Nicholas Chapel.

Mr Pomfret and Professor Mike Thorne, the guest of honour, made the awards.

Mr Pomfret said in his welcoming address: “The college is very proud of your dedication and hard work and is delighted to be here today to celebrate with you. I would like to recognise the part played by college staff and our university colleagues in supporting you through your studies.”

Mr Thorne said: “The partnership between the College of West Anglia and Anglia Ruskin University goes from strength to strength. Thanks to the partnership we have been able jointly to introduce new degree programmes such as that in Equine Studies which effectively pool the resources of our two institutions.

“It was therefore a delight to be at this year’s bumper graduation ceremony and to share in celebrating the success of university education locally delivered making a difference to the day to day lives of so many local people.”

The graduation ceremony, also attended by friends and families, was followed in the evening by a ball held in the town’s Corn Exchange.
