Central Park, the Empire State Building and Brooklyn Bridge were among the landmarks visited by students and staff from Cromwell Community College, Chatteris, during their half-term break.

They also enjoyed a three-hour boat cruise around Manhattan, visited the Rockerfeller Centre’s 70th floor, looked around Grand Central Station and visited Ground Zero.

The trip was completed by a shopping spree and eating food at three world-famous restaurants in Times Square

Jackie Harding, learning resource centre manager, said: “Over the four days the students walked in excess of 35 miles on sidewalks, travelled on coaches and used the New York Metro system.

“The students were very fortunate to also experience a day in Washington DC where they visited the White House, The Lincoln Memorial and the Smithsonian Museum.

“Since returning back to school, the staff have been bombarded with thank you messages, cards and e-mails of thanks from the families of children involved.”
