A Fenland woman has achieved her lifetime ambition and joined the Royal Air Force.
Lauren Arnold, 21, of March, did 10 weeks basic training at RAF Halton, Buckinghamshire, then spent four months at the Defence Driving School at Leconfield, Yorkshire, where she qualified to drive nearly every vehicle the RAF have and completed her dangerous goods certification.
She spent two years as an uniformed services student at the College of West Anglia Isle campus, completing her Extended Level 3 Diploma in Public Services in June 2012 with a merit.
The course was topped off with a kayaking expedition through northern Italy and into southern France where her fitness and her team and leadership skills were put to the test.
Ms Arnold paid tribute to the course, which she says gave her the grounding to succeed in the RAF.
She said: “This course was the key to my success in joining the Royal Air Force. The course shows a commitment to the fitness, discipline and knowledge needed to pursue a forces career.”
