A new financial year has begun for the Fenland Youth District Council and grant money is ready to be allocated.

The Fenland Youth District Council provides a chance for the young people of Fenland to have their say what happens in the local community.

Meetings are held throughout the year in which matters of the community are discussed. These often include things happening at various schools or any issues that have arisen since the last meeting.

In the past, we have taken a large interest of road safety in Fenland, persuading young drivers to take more care on the roads and making them aware of the dangers caused by careless driving.

After the success of the Great Grant Giveaway evening in March, we have £5,000 to give away until November. The remaining money will then be allocated at another giveaway evening in March next year.

The Youth District Council consists of elected members of Sir Harry Smith College, Cromwell Community College, Thomas Clarkson Academy, Neale Wade Academy and Wisbech Grammar School.

We focus on young people in Fenland and how it can help to represent the next generation and what they want. This means that we are always keen to know about any issues concerning the young people in Fenland to try and make a difference.

With a new Chair, Vice Chair and Finance Officer elected, the council is ready to start the new year with applications of up to £1,000 for small businesses or groups are always welcome.

As a member and the Finance Officer of the Youth District Council, I am aware of the effort that all of the members put in to help young people in Fenland.

I have also seen the difference grants can make to youth groups, charities or businesses and how they can benefit other people.

In the next year, the council is, as always, campaigning to make a positive change in Fenland by working alongside the public and members of Fenland District Council.
