PEOPLE and organisations are being asked if they think any changes need to be made to the places where elections are held.

The consultation opens today (Friday) and continues for five weeks. It is required to ensure that any polling in local or parliamentary elections takes place in a convenient place for electors and that any building or room is suitable.

It is part of the statutory Review of Polling Districts and Places that every local council has to undertake every four years. The review will not change either the number of councillors to be returned at elections or the current ward boundaries.

Questions on the feedback form include:

• Is the polling place easy to locate?

• Do you think the building itself is suitable for use as a polling place?

• Once inside the building, is the voting area easily accessible?

• If you are elderly, infirm or have a disability, are there any aspects relating to the use of the polling place that cause you any difficulty?

The form also asks people whether they know of any alternative polling place that would be suitable.

All comments are welcome. Anyone wanting to suggest major changes is encouraged to get in touch as soon as possible to enable further and more detailed consultation.

Feedback forms, details of the current arrangements and other relevant documents are available from FDC’s website, www.fenland.gov.uk, Fenland Hall and Fenland @ your service shops.

Representations should be made in writing to Elections, Fenland District Council, Fenland Hall, County Road, March, PE15 8NQ or by e-mail to elections@fenland.gov.uk. They must be received by Friday, September 30. All proposals and comments received will be published. For more information, contact FDC’s elections team on 01354 654321.
