POLL cards are being sent out today (Friday) for next month’s election for Cambridgeshire’s new Police and Crime Commissioner.

And next week every household will be sent a booklet explaining more about the election and how ballot papers will need to be filled in.

The election will be held on November 15. The deadline for registering or for applying for a postal vote is October 31. The deadline for applying for a proxy vote is November 7.

All registered voters are being urged to check their poll cards to see where their polling station will be on November 15. Some have changed from previous elections.

The Commissioner is a new role that will replace the Police Authority. He or she will not run the police, but will be responsible for holding the force to account on the public’s behalf.

The system being used for the election is the supplementary voting system, which is different to the “first past the post” system used in General Elections and local elections in England and Wales.
