YOUNGSTERS from St Peter’s Junior School, Wisbech, battled to a narrow victory in this year’s Wis Gets Physical cricket festival for Years 5-6 pupils.
They defeated the team from Payne Primary School, Parson Drove, by 11 runs in the final of the tournament.
Nine other schools took part in the festival, which was organised by Fenland District Council at Wisbech Cricket Club. They were Elm, Elm Road, Friday Bridge, Gorefield, Leverington, Murrow, Peckover, Ramnoth and Wisbech St Mary.
Payne emerged victorious in a second tournament for Years 3-4 pupils from nine schools that went ahead despite the rain last week. They beat Leverington by 17 runs.
Three schools were unable to take part because they were going to watch the Olympic flame pass through Long Sutton.
