FOLLOWING the recent spate of metal thefts around the country, the war memorial in Whittlesey has been treated with Smartwater.
The solution has been applied to all five metal plaques on the memorial to deter thieves and vandals.
The treatment has been carried out by Fenland District Council in conjunction with the local branch of the Royal British Legion.
The memorial has also been registered with the War Memorials Trust under its national βIn Memoriam 1914β project, which seeks to protect monuments from desecration.
Smartwater provides a signature that can only be seen under ultraviolet light. It makes any stolen metal easily identifiable and traceable.
