AFTER fish frying for 51 years in a Station Road chippy in March, Cyril Ayres, manager of Ednett's, retired in August, 1980. The lease had been bought by Mr and Mrs Richard James, who managed the former Fish Kitchen in Dartford Road, March, before moving to Peterborough.
Ednett's was not the only established business to change hands at the same time. At Miller's the bakers, all 14 full and part-time staff at the Broad Street confectioners, were made redundant when the company owner G W Miller sold the premises to Allied Bakeries Ltd. Edgar Miller had been in charge at March since 1932, and was retiring after 50 years in the trade. Alan Miller continued to run the Whittlesey business.
