Five fatal accidents in one weekend across the county

TRAFFIC officers across Cambridgeshire are investigating five fatal and one serious injury collisions that took place in the county over the weekend.

Four of the fatal collisions happened yesterday (Sunday, June 17).

The first of these collisions happened at 1.30am on the A142 near Stuntney. A Citroen Xantia, driven by a 48-year-old man from Ely, was in collision with a pedestrian. The pedestrian, a man believed to be in his 20s, suffered fatal injuries.

The second collision took place at 2.15am on the southbound carriageway of the M11 near Madingley.

A MAN heavy articulated truck was in collision with a pedestrian. The pedestrian, a 66-year-old man from the Cambridge area, died at Addenbrooke's Hospital. The driver of the truck, a man in his 30s from Kent, was uninjured.

The third collision happened at 12.30pm on the eastbound carriageway of the A1139 Fletton parkway.

A Mitsubishi Triton pick-up, a Vauxhall Cavalier and a Kawasaki ZX100 motorcycle collided. The rider of the motorcycle, a 37-year-old man from Northamptonshire, suffered fatal injuries in the collision.

The driver of the Mitsubishi, a 32-year-old man from Peterborough, and his passenger, a man from Kettering, were not injured. The driver of the Vauxhall, a man in his 60s from the Peterborough area, was not injured.

The fourth collision took place at 6.23pm on Milton Road in Cambridge.

A Yamaha motorcycle was in collision with a man in a wheelchair.

The rider of the motorcycle, a 57-year-old man, suffered serious injuries and was taken to Addenbrooke's Hospital. The 88-year-old man in the wheelchair suffered fatal injuries.

The fifth fatal collision happened on Friday, June 15.

The driver of a Volvo V40 left the road on Cannon Street at the junction with Church Street in Little Downham, at just after 5pm. The driver, a man in his late 70s, died.

It is believed the man may have died from natural causes and not as a result of the collision.

The serious injury collision happened at 2.23pm on Sunday. A Citroen Saxo and a Ford Fiesta were in collision near The Common in West Wratting, near to the junction with Wickham Road.

The driver of the Citroen, a man in his 20s from Bedford, suffered life-threatening injuries in the collision and was taken to Addenbrooke's Hospital. He remains in a critical condition.

The driver of the Fiesta, a woman in her 50s from Cambridge, suffered minor injuries and was treated at hospital.
