A TRADITIONAL pork butchers shop in Ely won five gold awards at the British Pork Federation’s regional competition held at the Norfolk showground.
Edis of Ely, who have been trading in the city for more than 50 years, won half of the ten categories, as they battled it out against 121 butchers from around the eastern counties.
They won the top prize for their traditional hand made pork pies, handmade pork burgrs, for scotch eggs, for their new chilli scotch eggs, and for their pork and bacon burgers.
Andrew Edis, the second generation of his family to run the High Street shop, said: “To make everything by hand is unusual. We did not make things especially for the competition, but took along items that we sell all the time in the shop.
“Everything is made from scratch, everything is hand blended and we use genuine free range pork.”
