A CARAVAN park and fishery in Doddington has been named as one of the finest in the country after bagging a five-star award from the AA.

Fields End Water, in Benwick Road, was judged to be so perfect by inspectors that they admitted “it is difficult to suggest any shortcomings or defects.”

The site, run by Charlie and Michelle Boughton, is renowned for such touches as providing foot stools for showers, immaculately mown lawns and providing only the best toilet paper.

The couple’s three year effort to reach the top spot of British caravanning has paid off - judges said it had “achieved a very high degree of maturity” and was “the product of meticulous planning and execution by Mr Boughton.

“Neither expense or expertise has been spared to create a park of very high specifications.”

Mr Boughton said: “My personal target on opening was to get the Five Pennants within three years of opening and we have achieved just that.”

He and his wife opened the site in 2009 and “we just make sure it is looked after and give customers the best possible service.

“We have to get tourists here and get them coming back by offering them something they want.

“Customers know what they are getting here and know it will be good and that the staff will be friendly. That’s why we’ve managed to achieve this standard.”

The AA awards campsites ‘pennants’ for the quality and range of facilities, with five being the maximum.

Mr Boughton is keen to expand and has applied to build eight log cabins.

He said: “It will be good for people who are visiting friends or relatives living in the area when there isn’t room for them stay.”
