VILLAGERS in Wimblington and surrounding parishes flocked to the Parkfield Sports Club over the weekend for the annual village carnival.

Festivities began on Friday with a gala ball in a marquee on the sports field for the occasion and Saturday saw a family disco.

Sunday's events started with a float parade. Thomas Eaton Primary School won the best float competition. Wimblington Keep Fit Club won the best dressed float. Councillor Jill Tuck, who represents Wimblington on Fenland District Council, presented the trophies.

There were races for children aged five to 16, including flat races and space hopper races, and there was a flat race for mums and dads.

Manea Silver Band performed throughout the afternoon, and there were demonstrations from the Army Cadets, March Militaire Majorettes and Parkfield Archery Club.

A visit from the fire service was included, with various stall holders scattered on the field and inside the marquee.

The money raised - the exact amount will be known next week - will go into the community, with a fish and chip supper for pensioners and a day outing for village children.
