Test the power of your feet at a fund raising family fun day featuring footballers from Peterborough United.

A power shot stall and a penalty shoot out are among the events on offer at the day which is raising money for four year old local girl Effie Hadman who suffers from a rare neuro generative disorder.

A team of Peterborough legends are playing REC Whittlesey in a charity match alongside a host of activities to help raise money for Effie.

A charity football match and family fun day is being staged in Whittlesey to raise money for Effie Hadman who suffers from Batten’s Disease, which as yet does not have a cure.

The charity day is on Sunday July 26 at Whittlesey Athletic Football Ground in Drybread Road. Kick off is at 10.30am.

There will be face painting, a bouncy castle, penalty shoot outs, burger and ice cream van, raffle and tombola with top prizes of a 42” TV, a £50 Marks and Spencer voucher, a hot air balloon ride and a weekend break in Great Yarmouth.

There will also be a chance to meet Posh mascot Peter Burrows and Posh manager Dave Robertson.

Effie was healthy until the age of two. But the worsening condition has meant she is now unable to walk or talk and struggles to swallow. She has lost the ability to sit and control her head, so she has been spending most of her day in bed.

Earlier this year she was given a new specialist chair provided by Newlife Foundation for Disabled Children.

Last year Effie’s parents set up used stamp collection boxes around the Fens to raise funds to find a cure for Batten’s.

The rare terminal disease is caused by a genetic fault, which means children are deficient in an enzyme which removes waste from the brain. The waste builds up and brain cells die.

Children lose all of their abilities and become completely blind, demented and bedridden.

Carly and her husband Paul are carriers for the rare disorder. The one ray of light is that their one year old son George does not have the disease - he was six weeks old when they discovered Effie was terminally ill.
