A former Wisbech Town manager has denied gross indecency with a 12-year-old boy, allegedly carried out during his time in the Fens.

Bryan Boggis, 75, of Suffield Road, Gorleston, appeared in Cambridge Magistrates Court today (August 8) where he pleaded not guilty to a charge of gross indecency with a boy under the age of 14.

The case forms part of the force’s investigation into non-recent allegations related to football in Cambridgeshire.

The offence is alleged to have happened between July 1 1968 and June 30, 1970.

Wisbech Town records show that Boggis joined the club as player manager on October 30, 1967 and left on May 2, 1970.

Boggis played for Cambridge United from 1961 to 1965 and remains the only player in the club’s history to compete in 195 consecutive games.

He began playing for Gorleston at 15 years old. At 17 he was spotted by scout Sailor Brown and signed for Aston Villa. His career saw him play for Crystal Palace before signing for Cambridge United as a right back.

Since then, he has gone on to work as a player manager for Wisbech and Stevenage Athletic, before leaving football and becoming licensee of a number of pubs in Norfolk and Suffolk.
