The former steward and stewardess of Chatteris Conservative Club have been sent for trial in connection with the alleged theft of £32,000.
Antony Dooley, 54, of Irchester, Northants, is accused of stealing £32,023 between January 1, 2009 and December 31, 2012.
His wife, Lynn, 55, is accused of acquiring, using “or had possession of criminal property, namely cash to the value of £32,023.”
The pair, who has always denied any wrong doing, was summonsed following a 15 month investigation by Cambridgeshire police.
The Dooleys appeared before Huntingdon magistrates on Tuesday and both for sent for trial at Peterborough Crown Court in July. Both were granted unconditional bail.
The club called in police to investigate after they suspended their then steward in the run-up to Christmas 2012.
Last month club officials posted a notice inside the club informing members of the decision to charge the Dooleys.
The private members club was formed nearly 100 years ago, originally for men only and over the years the King Edward Road premises have been upgraded and local ‘celebrity’ members included snooker player Joe Perry and former professional boxer Dave ‘Boy’ Green.
