A 74-year-old man from Kings Lynn has today (Wednesday 27 August 2014) pleaded guilty to historical gross indecency offences which took place in the west of the county.

Barry Warren, of Clifton Road, King’s Lynn, admitted at Norwich Crown Court, two counts of gross indecency against boys under the age of 13 in the west of the county. The offences took place in the early 90s and involved him abusing children he had come into contact with during his role as a Scout master.

DC Debbie Payne, from the Child Abuse Investigation Unit, welcomed the conviction, saying, “Warren clearly misused his position of trust to take his unassuming victims on trips on the Norfolk Broads and swimming at the weekends. He then used these trips as an opportunity to abuse them.”

She added: “We believe there may be other victims who have not been contacted as part of this investigation. Every allegation of abuse is fully investigated by Norfolk Police, with specialist officers guiding victims through the process. Support and advice is available from a range of agencies and police work closely with partners to work towards the successful prosecution of offenders.” Warren was released on bail and will be sentenced next month (date to be fixed).
