Oskar Thomas, of West Walton, who played guitar in a band, went missing last Thursday. His body was found five days later.

Oskar, right, had recently played a gig at the Met Lounge, in Peterborough, and earlier this year released an untitled demo with his band, Trampled, who describe themselves as punk, metallic hardcore.

On a Facebook page dedicated to finding him after he went missing, his family wrote on Tuesday: “Oskar’s body was found in the River Nene towards Wisbech. We want everyone to know it was Oskar’s choice to take his life, he is finally at peace with himself.

“This is devastating news for all of us, but he is in a better place. Keep rocking out in Heaven, Oskie.”

Band members from Trampled posted on their Facebook page: “Oskar was truly the best man among us. Not only was he the single most talented musician we’ve ever met, let alone played with, he was also truly caring and kind to everyone.

“He loved what he did more than anything, and being in Trampled made him truly happy.

“He was the glue that held us all together, and was the creative genius behind our work.

“I’ve never met someone as dedicated as he was to the DIY hardcore scene. He loved the ethos of it and did all he could to support others involved.

“If you are in a band from the scene, chances are he was a fan and went to a show you were on or bought your records.

“Our condolences, thoughts and prayers go out to his family. We are deeply sorry for them.

“RIP Oskar. We will never forget you or the impact you’ve had on our lives. We hope you’re up there now, still rocking out like you do best.”

A former Spalding Grammar school student, Oskar went to the College of West Anglia’s Isle Campus to study a Level 3 BTEC in Games Development.

A college spokesman said: “Oskar studied the course from 2011-2013 and proved himself to be talented in this subject area, achieving a distinction grade. He was an articulate and capable student who developed good relationships with students and staff.

“We are privileged to have known him and our thoughts are with his family at this sad time.”

Fellow musician Red Sismey said: “Oskar was the sweetest dude. His enthusiasm, kindness and boundless energy will never be forgotten and I’ve never met anyone with as much positivity and drive for the DIY Metal and Hardcore community as him.

“He would pop up at the most unexpected gigs with an infectious, ever-present smile because he loved it all so much.

“He was a big fan of my own band and I could never thank him enough for the money, time and love he put into supporting us.

“I am glad he did things his own way. My thoughts are with his family and friends. Peace out, homie. Keep on moshing wherever you are.”

Friend Ciara NiDhuibhir added: “He was truly an amazing person and has been inspirational to everyone around him.”

And Mark Flanagan said: “Oskar was a cool guy. Always happy, always helpful and always good to be around. I owe a lot of my current music taste to him and I had a lot of fun times around him.”

A Norfolk police spokesman said: “We can confirm the death of a man whose body was discovered in the river near the Crab Marsh area of Wisbech is not being treated as suspicious.”
