Over £1000 was raised at a family fun day in aid of March’s Estover Playing Field despite a disappointing turn-out.

Friday’s floods were blamed for the lower than expected number of people enjoying the huge array of activities, which included a dog show, face painting, a variety of side stalls and games.

Sue Clenshaw, secretary of the Estover Playing Field Association, said: “The turn out was lower than expected, probably because of Friday’s floods, although we weren’t affected by the weather.”

Money raised will go to the upkeep of the field, the future of which is currently in the balance with on-going discussions between owners Cambridgeshire County Council and Fenland District Council. A meeting is planned for next month to try to determine the best way forward.

In the meantime campaigners were at Saturday’s fun day asking people to sign a petition to stop any housing development on the playing field with over 150 signing up in less than two hours.
