HE is normally tasked with cleaning the aisles of Wisbech’s Tesco store - but this week Jim Thorpe is on a different mission.

The 58-year-old cleaner is cycling 1,000 miles on an in-store exercise bike to raise money for Cancer Research UK... and all on his week off.

Spencer Whitcombe, store manager, said: “Jim lost his mother to cancer this year and so he decided to raise money for this great charity.

“He wanted to do something special during his week off... and this is what he came up with!”

Mr Thorpe wants to raise 2,000 for the charity through sponsorship and donations from customers.

He has already collected more than 500 and clocked about 300 miles. His marathon ride is set to finish on Sunday.
