This is the fourth charity match organised by Jo and Robert Satt in memory of Jo’s cousin Ricky Rodwell and over the course of three years a staggering £6,715 has been raised for the Papyrus UK charity.

Jo said: “This year we raised another substantial amount for the charity Papyrus UK, a total of £1073.21p of sponsorship money and raffle ticket purchases which will rise as we have sponsors still to collect.

“We have not only raised money but have also raised awareness of the charity Papyrus UK and the work it does to prevent young suicides and the hope it gives to those in desperate need.

“If what we raise helps to save just one life it’s a job well done and a life worth saving, no one should ever feel that suicide is the only answer and that they do not have anyone to turn to.”

The fishing took place on Saturday (June 23) and was held at Head Fen Lakes and Fisheries at Little Downham.

Jo added: “What a beautiful venue it was. The owner Mark was fantastic with accommodating us and even donated brand new carp rods for each of our three junior fisherman, Josh, Tyler and Lewis which they were over the moon with.”

The fishing.

Jo said: “Ricky looking after us with the weather as usual! This made the fishing extremely hard.

“Even though this is a match with trophies and prize money at stake it didn’t stop the experienced fisherman around the lake helping each other with hints, tips and sharing bait with the novices, which I think is heartwarming.

“The results this year again see a new name added to the winners trophy and my husband finally bagging a trophy for second place.

“We also added a trophy for biggest fish this year which was won by Pawel Nycz.”

To make this year’s event different, Jo wanted to contact new businesses for their raffle prizes, she said: “We didn’t like to keep contacting the same local businesses.

“After months of extremely hard work and literally hundreds of emails we again were surprised by the overwhelming amount of support with prizes that we received.”

Robert Goddards, Tesco, Buttonhole Fisheries, KLFM, The Retreat and many more all donated prizes for the event’s raffle.

Along with prizes purchased and donated by friends and family, some national businesses also got involved.

Korda, Manchester United, Battlefield Live (Peterborough) and Fantasy Island all helped out with donations.

Jo added: “I would like to take this opportunity to thank my Aunty Maggie and Uncle Paul for their continued support with these matches; they are overwhelmed by the love and support of keeping Ricky’s memory alive and raising awareness of suicide prevention.

“My husband Rob Satt without who these matches would never have happened and certainly wouldn’t be as organised, my big sister Emma Smith for your help on the day these last three years, all the fishermen, their sponsors, my family and friends for their continued support and businesses for their kind donations.”
