CLOWNS, lion-tamers and strongmen filled the classrooms of a Fenland school today as the circus rolled in for book week.

Pupils and teachers at Thomas Eaton Primary School, in Wimblington, March, dressed up for the special circus-themed day, which was held to cap off the school’s book week.

Youngsters wrote poems and stories about the circus and even took to the stage to dramatise their chosen theme.

Head Teacher Pam Jones said: “I have walked into some of the classrooms to see boys with their noses embedded in a book. It’s wonderful - they just don’t want to stop reading and days like this help us achieve that.

“All the staff have dressed up as well. It’s been a fantastic day and a lovely week.”

The school’s book week has included a host of activities and a visit from author Steve Smallman.

Last night, pyjama-clad children even enjoyed a special bedtime story reading hosted by deputy head Jade Betts.
