MORE than 70 people enjoyed a Fenland flying club’s open weekend.
Mike McLoughlin, chief flying instructor at AAA Microlights Flying Club, based in Chatteris airfield, took visitors up in the air in an Ikarus C-42 Microlight.
Members were on hand to give a flavour of the club and there was a barbecue, cakes and biscuits for guests to tuck in to.
Flight instructor Katie Denham said: “It went really well. We had lots of people from Doddington, March, Manea and Chatteris come along.
“A lot of club members let children sit in their aircrafts, which made their faces light up.
“Several people had test flights and somebody signed up for lessons.”
The club, which has been going since 2005, attracts flying enthusiasts of all ages and backgrounds.
There are currently 20 people, aged from 15 to 60, working towards their pilot’s licence.
Katie said: “Club members explained to members of the public that owning a Microlight is much more affordable in groups.
“It was a big success and we hope to run similar days in the future.”
The C-42 microlight is a stable and forgiving aircraft, perfect for beginners.
It has the full list of equipment including a transponder, state-of-the-art Ballistic Recovery System (BRS) and cabin heat for winter flying.
